Here are some show picks for the week in NYC.
I know we've been mentioning Grand Resort a lot here, but guess what? They keep on playing shows. So until they stop (which may never happen) I'm going to keep on including them. Their residency at Piano's kicks off Thursday 8/15 with a set at 10:00. The show is $8 and features 6 other acts. Also that night, Butchers and Bakers play Union Hall. This $10 show starts at 8:00 and includes Wojcik, Haybaby & Mega-Yes.
Friday night, you can see Mal Blum playing solo at the Living Room at 9:00, and then go next door to see Field Mouse at the Cake Shop. The latter show is $8 and doors are at 8:00. Also on Friday night, Kendra Morris plays the release show for her Mockingbird cover project at Le Poisson Rouge. Doors at 7:00, show at 8:00. You can get advance tickets for $12, otherwise it's $15. We shared the cover of "Miss You" a few weeks ago, here's the video.
Saturday, you have a whole boatload of options. John Brodeur is playing a release show the Living Room for his new album Little Hopes, which comes out today. He goes on at 8:00 and it's free – all the more money left to buy the album. Oh! My Blackbird is part of the latest Mama Coco's Showcase at Muchmore's. Also in the lineup: Goodman, Dr. Skinnybones, Swaai Boys, The Gradients, The All-About, and The Harmonica Lewinskies. It starts at 8:00. There is another chance to see Grand Resort as part of the Out in the Streets Music Fest, which sound like a good time. Finally, you can check out Happy Lives in a free show at Spike Hill that starts at 8:00, along with XNY, The Yugos, and Silent Lions. Here's their track "Feeling Right."
