Upcoming Atlantic Guitar Quartet Concert

The Atlantic Guitar Quartet is a four piece classical guitar ensemble based out of Baltimore. If you read the groups manifesto you'll find that they emphasize performing the works of living composers. This Friday they will be doing just that in a concert at the Engineers Club at the Garrett Jacobs Mansion in Baltimore City – where they have held the prestigious Artist-in-Residence position since 2010.

The concert program will contain works from Olivier Bensa, Roland Dyens, and the world premier of Be Not Afraid: Music from Prospero's Island by Ronald Pearl. The night's music emphasizes the musicians abilities to explore all ranges of their guitar technique, as well as texture, tonal and coloration possibilities. This unique set of repertoire coupled with the ensemble's direct and thoughtful interpretations promise to make the evening a memorable concert experience.

The concert begins at 8:00 pm and doors open at 7:30. There will also be a cash bar available before and after the concert. Tickets are available here and discounts are offered with a student ID or through advanced purchase. Read on for a short video clip of the ensemble performing at Spring Stage Performances last spring in NYC. You can also get the rest of your AGQ fix satisfied by keeping with the group via Facebook, Twitter, or their Official Web Page.

The Wood Brothers: Smoke Ring Halo EPK & Tour Dates

The Wood Brothers are hands down on the most perpetually fulfilling artists on the scene today. I have enjoyed every step of their career and their music has enriched some special memories of my own. If you haven't been lovin' The Wood Brothers like me its not too late. Their new album Smoke Ring Halo is still available on Amazon for the budget price of $8.99 and their early fall tour is hopefully coming to a town near you.

The EPK for the album can been seen below. The quality of their musicianship speaks for itself. Strip musicians down to the bare basics of acoustic instruments, vocal harmony, and strength of song writing and story telling and only the cream will rise to the top. You dig?

Jonny Corndawg's Record Store Tour'

Jonny Corndawg, TWD's favorite singer/songwriter, marathoner, leather worker, and self-proclaimed "big drinker of little juices" is currently cruising down the east coast touring record stores in promotion of his soon to be released album Down on the Bikini Line. This blogger was more than happy to be in attendance at last nights show in Baltimore at The Sound Garden. Although previous album, I'm Not Ready to be a Daddy, was a bitchin', this new opus brings the Corndawg into a whole new echelon.

You need three good reasons to love Down on the Bikini Line? Here they are: 1. His backing band is Dawes. 2. There's a song called Life of a Bear; it's about the life of a bear. 3. Jonny Corndawg can run faster and farther than you. You dig?

Soul Cannon: The Mixed Ape Record Release Party

Baltimore's own Soul Cannon is back with their second full length studio album The Mixed Ape. To celebrate this, they're throwing a record release party with guests the Chris Pumphrey Sextet and Ghostmode this Saturday, July 16th at The Wind Up Space in Baltimore MD.

Soul Cannon is pushing towards the forefront of the hip hop scene because of their polished talent, rambunctious shows, and sick instrumental prowess. Anytime the Cannon plays it is a not to be missed kind of show, but the opportunity to share an evening in celebration of the new album is a rare treat and one the all available should be clambering to get in on.
