I liked the song "Seymour" by Old Monk a few months back, and now the band has a new single out, "Fowl and Foe." I'm digging it.
Got some show picks for your weekend (including Hey Anna, pictured here) plus a video for one of my favorite songs of 2013 by our friends Beat Radio. [UPDATE: Didn't realize Brian S. of Beat Radio also had a show this weekend. It's now included].
Blue & Gold is a relatively new band I've been digging. Their first EP came out yesterday, the play their first proper show tonight at Piano's, and I recently had a chance to talk with members Chloe and Alex. Read on for the interview, music, and show info.
Brooklyn band Desert Shackles release their new album Habit Shackles today and play a show for the occasion tonight at Cameo Gallery. Both are definitely worth checking out.
Good morning and happy Monday to you. Here's a new Weekly Roundup to start the week.
Our friends in Cultfever are playing a really cool-sounding show Saturday at Music Hall of Williamsburg, plus they have a video out for "Animals" you should watch. Details after the jump!

It's time for another installment of my series on the music of Freaks and Geeks, one of my favorite TV shows. This week is about the third episode, "Tricks and Treats," which has some great costumes (Bionic Woman, anyone?) and uses a Cheap Trick song in an interesting way.
In anticipation of their debut EP, Little Daylight has released their third original single "Glitter and Gold."
Last month, I went to Nitehawk Cinema for the latest in their Music Driven series, done in partnership with Noisey. They showed Todd Haynes' film Velvet Goldmine. It is loosely based on David Bowie and it was very interesting. Musician Nathan Larson of Shudder to Think was there for a Q&A – he helped create original music – and from him, I learned some new things. Here is what I dug about the film, plus a few things I dig about Bowie.
