I am very happy to unveil Digcast Episode 6, the first edition devoted to the music scene of New York City where I live. It features five bands from the area. In addition to sharing one of their songs, I spoke to each of them about the chosen song as well as some things they love about NYC.
The Tequila Mockingbird Orchestra is a 5 piece self-proclaimed gypsy-root-grass band with a full length album from 2009 entitled The Blanche Albumunder their belt, as well as an EP from last year simply calledThe Nashville EP. The band is touring extensively this summer in promotion of this EP as well as to build momentum towards the release of their second full length album this October.
The music in The Nashville EP is a groovy tour de force of talent, song writing craftsmanship, and cross genre influence that is guaranteed to move any audience to dance. I look forward to hearing from the band come this fall, but would settle for what is sure to be a great summer of ruckus tour stops. Read on and check TMO's video for the attached song Home On The Water.
Weekly Roundup comes to you a day early from its regular Sunday slot, but that's because we have something exciting prepared for tomorrow Tuesday. You'll have to return to find out what that is, but in the mean time, dig some great new music.
Royal Canoe is a new Canadian band I've been enjoying. They have a debut EP called Extended Play (get it?) and some cool videos you should watch. It's all a click away.
Maybe it was the near 80 degree weather today, or maybe it's the near 80 degree weather in my sweltering apartment, but I'm starting to get summer on the brain and in my bones. So here's a tune for that, "Summer Krushhh" by Chocolate Robots.
After last night's post on The Belle Brigade and their video "Where Not To Look For Freedom," I realized I've been sitting on quite a few videos from previously featured bands. Let's just get them all out, shall we?
It's been a beautiful weekend here in Brooklyn. I hope it was nice elsewhere and that you all had the chance to enjoy it. Feeling the first stirrings of summer is always wonderful, and so are these six tunes in our latest Weekly Roundup.
This one's a little late coming, but it was a great little show, so it's still worth sharing with Dig Nation. I unfortunately missed Patrick Watson opening for Andrew Bird last weekend, but when life closes a door, a nice little cocktail bar near you throws a show, or something like that.
I had the distinct pleasure of catching Patrick Watson and his band Patrick Watson play an intimate show for probably 50 people in the piano lounge at the Manhattan Inn in my Greenpoint hood. The set-up was essentially in-the-round and definitely up close, which ended up being the best possible way to absorb Patrick and co.'s sentimental, cinematic pop tunes. It was so intimate, in fact, that it ended up being more like a house show for friends with audience interaction, laughs over goof ups in songs, and a tip jar.
Patrick Watson (the man) has a fascinatingly emotive voice that carries the ballads (despite his cigarettes and two glasses of whiskey). Patrick Watson (the band) play perfectly off of eachother and weave their voices and instruments into a mesh dripping with feeling.
The guys (and gal) released their album Adventures In Your Own Backyard last month and will be touring with Andrew Bird for awhile longer.
I'd say you should check out the show tonight at The Gutter in Brooklyn for the simple fact that it's a show in a bowling alley. But you should also be sure to check it out because of the bands involved, which include Palomino. Read on for details.
