XV – Blame Yourself (Ft. GLC, Emilio Rojas, and Casy Veggies)

This one dropped a couple weeks back, but I'm finally finding a couple minutes to post it. Did you guys realize I'm into XV? Wasn't sure if that was clear. "Blame Yourself" is short on the XV and heavy on the guests, but the old school, bassy beat is sick and more than carries the lack of Vizzy. Obligatory XV post ending: CAN'T WAIT FOR THE ALBUM WHEN IT DROPS SOMEDAY!

The Roots and A Tribe Called Quest Freestyle

Uncovered this gem in a Rolling Rock-inspired YouTube spelunking session. The two legendary hip hop crews have a little fun together in Brooklyn in 1995. Phife is particularly nasty here and while my man Q doesn't get any action, it's still a great document of the peak years of great hip hop.

Upcoming Atlantic Guitar Quartet Concert

The Atlantic Guitar Quartet is a four piece classical guitar ensemble based out of Baltimore. If you read the groups manifesto you'll find that they emphasize performing the works of living composers. This Friday they will be doing just that in a concert at the Engineers Club at the Garrett Jacobs Mansion in Baltimore City – where they have held the prestigious Artist-in-Residence position since 2010.

The concert program will contain works from Olivier Bensa, Roland Dyens, and the world premier of Be Not Afraid: Music from Prospero's Island by Ronald Pearl. The night's music emphasizes the musicians abilities to explore all ranges of their guitar technique, as well as texture, tonal and coloration possibilities. This unique set of repertoire coupled with the ensemble's direct and thoughtful interpretations promise to make the evening a memorable concert experience.

The concert begins at 8:00 pm and doors open at 7:30. There will also be a cash bar available before and after the concert. Tickets are available here and discounts are offered with a student ID or through advanced purchase. Read on for a short video clip of the ensemble performing at Spring Stage Performances last spring in NYC. You can also get the rest of your AGQ fix satisfied by keeping with the group via Facebook, Twitter, or their Official Web Page.
