XV – All Of This For Me

This is my JAM. I've been stalking @XtotheV's Twitter feed for daysss waiting for this video to hit. It finally did today and it does the song justice. It's pretty damn straight-forward, but it's colorful and full of fast cuts and I'm easily entertained. Vizzy's main mission right now seems to be to work me into a fever pitch waiting for The Kid With The Green Backpack to drop. He's winning.

Blur – Coffee and TV

There was a short period in high school when I was so into Blur that I thought they were the perfect band. Their sound was just so appealing to me that I starting telling people that if I ever had a band, it would end up sounding just like Blur.

The video for "Coffee and TV" is a classic (Animated Milk Carton category). The song also contains what is probably my favorite harmony of all-time on the line "I've seen so much I'm going blind, and I'm brain-dead, virtually" during the chorus. Whenever I'm singing along in my car I can never decide whether to take the high or low part.

This is the kind of straight-forward, even-keeled, unpretentious, honest pop rock that I miss these days. Anyone have any suggestions on where I could find it?

Fort Frances – Falling Down

You know, the reason I got into blogging was to introduce all of you to great tunes. I never really anticipated how great having a blog would be for my own musical discovery. The tight-knit community of blogbros means that great tracks and bands get passed around from band to blog to readers to blogs to blogs to readers to bands and back to blogs. Today's example is the lads of Chicago's Fort Frances and their album The Atlas, which I've been devouring for a week.
